Rong Riben

Baby, it's getting cold outside.

And there's nothing that will keep you warmer than a burning little secret.

Oh, and all-you-can-eat sushi.

Head down Huashan Lu, stop at an otherwise-unmarked doorway denoted by two red lanterns and a foreboding set of stairs. Ascend the staircase under aggressive fluorescent lighting and enter.

Totally nondescript from its facade, Rong is closely-kept secret spot for a reason - at an astounding 150RMB for endless food and drink (!!!), get ready to put on that winter weight. The main room is bustling but cozy, with booths for groups or a sushi bar running along one side if you want to get in on the action. Upstairs is a smoky, slightly more formal room that seems like it wants to turn into a KTV den for those who take the unlimited sake a little too seriously - stay downstairs if possible.

Value aside, Rong does all manner of Japanese remarkably well. Super-fresh sashimi, hand-rolled sushi, crispy tempura, sizzling beef plates - even uni. Settle in and get your first rounds of sashimi in while you look at the rest of the menu as the place is perpetually packed.

After a few hours you'll be hibernation-ready.

Just keep it on the down-low.
