Easter is: butter-yellow daffodils and softly-scented hyacinths, bursts of unexpected sunshine, tender roasted spring lamb, too much milk chocolate, and hot cross buns.

I'm generally not a huge 'bunner', but the latter - recently 'breved to "HXBs" - have become a British Easter tradition I have enthusiastically embraced, much like mince pies at Christmas. And, as in most things, St John does a pretty bang-up job with them.

So I celebrated my Easter morning by pulling apart pillowy, still-steaming buns from St John Bread and Wine, sticky with glaze and studded with dried fruits and bitter rind. It's a shame they're so seasonal as they're the perfect morning treat - I guess I'll have to run back this afternoon to get them while they're 'hot'.
